Open Dates

I would love to show you the patterns I have found up North this week – give me a call and let’s go! August 27, 28, and 29 is what I have open this coming week.  For September, I have: 4, 5, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29. Now is the time to book your fall trip!  Lot’s of great fishing ahead of us in the coming weeks! Give me a call and let’s fish!

Current Lake Conditions

Water Temp – 82 degrees
Water Level – .2  feet above full pool
We had a great glimpse of fall over the last few days.  The mornings have been “jacket” cool lately, which is awesome!  The fish liked the change as well.  Generally as we approach fall, any cooler weather change will spark the fish to move and start biting.  This situation was no different! We will discuss more about this in the details of the report below. The Corp of Engineers continues to pull water regularly and the lake is down to almost full pool.  The lower lake is still mainly clear with a slight stain back in the creeks. Above Brown’s Bridge the water is stained in the creeks, but fairly clear in the main river channel.

Current Patterns

The bite really improved this week for us.  We even found some good ones as well as a lot of bites compared to recent weeks.  The first adjustment I made was to move up North of Browns Bridge.  I found some faster-cooling water and some more active fish.  Our best bait has probably been a SuperSpin with a Keitech trailer.  Some main river points as well as creek points have been holding some good fish and they are active, particularly when the wind is up a little.  We have been covering water with the SuperSpin and found fish in the 8-15 foot range on these points.  A jig has been a great second option.  We have been fishing lay-downs on steeper rock areas for some good fish on the jig.  Not a ton of bites, but certainly some good ones.  A flutter spoon on schooling fish has also worked in addition to the SuperSpin.  We didn’t have much luck getting those fish to react to topwater, but that bite is not far off.   A popper can be a good choice for the topwater in general this time of year.  Both over structure and back shallow over grass in the pockets and back of creeks in the early morning.  We also had some success with a spinnerbait this week on rocky points and banks.  If you decide to try up north, stay on the move and find the fish.  When you see them hanging out on your graph in any depth, search around that area and fish it hard.  Hopefully the fishing will really pick up in the next couple of weeks as we get closer to fall and enjoy some cooler temperatures.
